Many in Southwest Wisconsin question need for cell phone towers

SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN - Local residents in Vernon and Richland counties are asking some hard questions about the company Bug Tussel's plans to install dozens of cell phone towers in the two counties in 2019. Residents in the Richland County, Town of Bloom, near West Lima, say that through Vernon Telephone Cooperative they already have great, affordable, internet from fiber optic cable laid to their front door, as well as adequate cell phone service.

Mississippi River rule changes spur debate at Conservation Congress spring hearings

SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN - The 2019 Conservation Congress Spring Hearings, which took place in all 72 of Wisconsin's counties earlier in April, drew a total of 3,402 people in-person at the meetings, and an additional 7,310 participants online. This means that overall, with the online option, participation in providing input on the 88 questions before the state's conservation community increased by 36 percent. In-person attendance, however, was down overall by 39 percent.

SWTC education is quite practical

GAYS MILLS - I was wondering what to write about this week when I found the answer in my mailbox on Friday: The Southwest Tech Annual Report. Southwest Tech is our local outpost of the highly rated Wisconsin Technical College System. One of 16 such districts spread across the state, Southwest Tech serves 30 school districts in 9 counties. There are 49 tech school campuses within the 16 tech school districts. No one in Wisconsin lives very far from a technical school.

Broadband survey by 3C Co-op gets 45 percent rate of response

CRAWFORD COUNTY - The Rural Crawford County Internet/Broadband Survey that was mailed to 1,157 randomly selected locations concluded on April 29, 2019–45 percent of the survey group returned surveys–based on the population that received the survey, this should provide estimates accurate to +/- 3.28 percent.
